Quiet local election year
With just two weeks to go until filing time, it looks as if it will be a quiet election season – – at least on the local level.
With all of the county officials up for re-election, including one county commission seat, no challengers have emerged to take on the incumbents. The county clerk position is an open seat and at least two candidates have made noise about running – – but other than that, no one else is on the horizon.
Our state representative seats are also up for election, but so far the incumbents haven’t drawn any significant opponents and it doesn’t look like they will.
It’s possible someone unexpected will emerge during filing period, but they probably won’t be serious candidates. Those who are serious about seeking election will have already begun the process of raising awareness and raising money.
Filing period is May 12-16. Filing fee is 1 percent of the annual salary for the job.
