New state building is ludicrous
Let me get this straight. The State of Washington is spending $80 million dollars to build a new state office building right on Capitol Way.
Does this strike anyone as ludicrous?
Didn’t the state just build a new building to house the health benefits board – – that’s not full? Didn’t the state build a new technology building that’s only 25 percent utilized?
Aren’t there dozen of office building in Lacey, Olympia and Tumwater sitting vacant because state offices moved out into the new over-built facilities?
Where are the responsible minds calling for a comprehensive review of the state building needs?
The main occupants of this new building will be the Washington State Patrol. It might make the State Patrol feel good to have its own new building, but it can’t be justified given the current vacancies in existing state buildings.
By the way – – the State Patrol still doesn’t give traffic tickets to state legislators, who approved the new building.
OK – – I’m being silly. I’m certain that one doesn’t have anything to do with the other – – but it still seems odd to build a new state office building when there are many vacant buildings.
It’s only $80 million dollars – – just a scratch in the state’s budget – – but it is taxpayer money. Who’s watching out for the taxpayers?
It doesn’t seem to be the legislature or the State Patrol.
