Lacey to hold meeting on proposed plastic bag ban – – Lawson slams his fellow councilmembers for lack of action

October 29th, 2013 by Ken

Saying that a proposed plastic bag ban ordinance has not been decided in Lacey, the City is holding a community wide out-reach to get information from Lacey residents.

The effort kicks off on Tuesday, November 12 with an open house at Chinook Middle School from 5:30 to 7 pm.

The open house will feature plastic bags including those that would be banned by the proposed ordinance.   Representatives of the city will be on hand to answer questions and take comments from city residents.

Meanwhile, Lacey Councilmember Ron Lawson has written a letter to the editor of “The Olympian”  stating that two naysayers and two fence sitters on the City Council are stopping the city from getting anything done on the issue.

Lawson also stated – – erroneously – – that Lacey citizens had already voted for a ban – – when in fact, no vote has ever been taken.

The city will continue its effort to garner the opinion of city residents with a comment card inside the utility bills of all those residing within the city limits of Lacey.

Lawson faces a tough re-election campaign, which will be decided before the upcoming public meeting.
