Wyman takes on the Big Apple

November 9th, 2012 by Ken

Kim Wyman, Thurston County Auditor and apparent new Washington Secretary of State, has garnered another honor.    She has been selected by “Glamour” magazine as one of 16 women elected officials across the United States, who are role models for young women.

Wyman will be in New York City this weekend for the ceremony at Carnegie Hall.

“I’ve never really thought of myself as a role model,” she said.   “But it feels good to think that I might be able to inspire young women to look at becoming involved in the political system.”   Wyman said one of  the role models on her short list was Jennifer Dunn.

For the last 10 years “Glamour” magazine has selected women of the year.  This year they noticed that 2600 women were running for elective office across the country.   They noted that Wyman would be the only Republican woman elected statewide in Washington.  That was one of the reasons she was selected.  Wyman pointed out that should she be elected Secretary of State, she would be the only Republican woman state official holding office on the West Coast including Oregon and California.

In addition to the 16 women elected officials, the magazine will also honor Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg  and Ethel and Rory Kennedy.
