Who’s watching the money?

Those who know me, know that I’m a big Lacey fan. I think the City of Lacey does a great job of making Lacey a good place to live and do business.

So, when I criticize the city, it means I’m really concerned.

The most recent has to do with the City of Lacey getting a million dollars in federal grant money to expand the Lacey Senior Center. But, I have to ask myself, why does the federal government give money to local cities for such programs? Aren’t we running trillion dollar deficits? Isn’t the federal government spending taxpayer money in a way that causes financial ruin?

I’m sure the city can find a good rationalization for the money. I’m sure that taking care of seniors is a city priority. But, shouldn’t that money come from local sources? Why does the federal government continue to fund local projects?

Who’s watching the money?
