City says “I don’t think so” to Fred Meyer gas pumps

September 18th, 2010 by Ken

The City of Lacey has told Fred Meyers, that they don’t think a proposed retail fuel center on the corner of Golf Club and Lacey Boulevard is appropriate use of the site.

Engineers for Fred Meyer had approached the city in a pre-submission conference, in August,  to build a gas station with seven fuel pumps on half an acre of land near the Golf Club roundabout.

The city discouraged the applicants from going further with their proposal and suggested they find another site in the Fred Meyer complex that would be better suited for such a project.

The city’s zoning regulations generally prohibit retail automotive facilities in the city core.

The only Fred Meyer gas facility in Thurston County is in Tumwater at a leased gas station.  The nearest Fred Meyer owned facility is in Pierce County.

Fred Meyers has not responded back to the city’s suggestions.
