NT Superintendent search
Tuesday night was the second of three public meetings on the hiring of a new superintendent for the North Thurston Public Schools. Mike Boring, former Olympia School District administrator led the discussion for the search team of MacPherson & Jacobson.
Of the 21 people in atendance at North Thurston High School, three were public officials, at least two were from school district staff and the others represented special interest groups – – gifted education, special education, vocational education and performing arts.
Boring admitted that the makeup of the meeting did not constitute the makeup of the school district. He did say that this meeting was larger than normal.
In its search for a new superintendent, Boring has met with school district staff, with the teachers, with students, with non-certified staff, with residents of Panorama and with residents of Jubilee.
In response to a question, Boring said they were conducting a nationwide search. “Once you put it on the internet, it’s always a nationwide search,” he said. The search committee has also received interest from overseas.
The deadline for public comment is January 19. Applications for the job will be accepted through February 28. The search committee hopes to have a recommendation to the North Thurston School Board by April 1. The new superintendent is expected to be named by July 1.
There is one more public meeting, Thursday, January 15 at Timberline High School beginning at 6:30 p.m. Public response will also be accepted on line.
Boring said he wasn’t certain, but felt the school board would have another public meeting so the community can meet the finalist for the job.
