Lacey loves its military families
The Sixth Annual March to Support Military Families, drew almost 3000 spectators and more than a thousand marchers today. And, it drew more than $45,000 in donations which go to support military families.
March organizer Andrew Oczkewicz said that more than $250,000 has been raised, since the march started and was distributed by organizers of the march, the Rotary Club of Hawks Prairie.
Following the short two mile walk, participants were treated to lunch courtesy of the Lacey Wal-Mart. Since its inception the march has started and ended at Wal-Mart. And, while the super store has provided refreshments in the past, this is the first time America’s largest retailer has fed the marchers. Interestingly enough, caught unaware by the national headquarters decision to feed everyone, the Lacey Wal-Mart purchased the food it served from the Lacey Costco, according to Oczkewicz.
The Lacey Chamber of Commerce has declared it HEROS day in Lacey and was distributing special coupon books to all persons with military ID. The books gave discounts from Lacey Chamber members, to active and retired military families.
Persons wanting to make a contribution to support military families can still do so by contacting any Hawks Prairie Rotarian.
The March to Support Military Families wasn’t the only event going on in Lacey on Saturday. The Big Home and Garden show, sponsored by the Olympia Master Builders was pulling full houses at St. Martin’s University and the City of Lacey was sponsoring the Lacey Community Market at Woodland Square.
Lacey never has a dull summer weekend.
