Obama lifted lines

August 29th, 2008 by Ken

While watching Barack Obama’s acceptance speech last night, I could have sworn that I had heard parts of it before.   Then it dawned on me.  I had.

“The American President”, a movie starring Michael Douglas as the president of the United States, gave a moving and powerful speech near the end of the movie.  It’s obvious that Obama, or his speech writer, had heard the speech, because he lifted portions of his speech last night directly from the Douglas movie script.

Aaron Sorkin, the writer of “The American President” as well as television’s “West Wing” should have been given credit for writing portions of Obama’s acceptance speech.
