For more than 20 years I was a Democratic Precinct Committeeman.  One day I looked up from trying to make a living and saw that my party had deserted me.  I was standing in the middle and my party was heading towards the left.  I took a look at the Republican party and found that it was too far to the right.  What could I do?  I was stuck in the middle.

Since that time my political bent has stabilized.   It contains some elements of the old Democratic party.  It contains some elements of populism and it contains some elements of libertarianism.  When it comes to national defense it can also contain some elements of nationalism.

My political philosophy can be sumed up with the comment “I’m against the Big Five.”    The Big Five are Big Business, Big Labor, Big Media, Big Religion and Big Government.   As long as these five bigs are in relative strength against each other, then everything is generally alright with the country.  But when one of them gains too much power and begins to overwhelm the others, then we have problems.

My goal is to point out when one or the other of the big five has increased its power and explain how that affects those of us just trying to eke out a living.

I have a secondary goal.  I also like to educate and inform, particularly as it relates to the history of our community.

Therefore, you will find that many of my articles educate and inform and does not necessarily move one to action.  I also try, when at all possible, to concentrate my stories and feelings about our home – – Thurston County.  I am most familiar with Lacey and you will see my political stories often deal with political dealings by Lacey officials.

I hope you will find Ken’s Corner & The Real News informative and educational but most of all I hope you will find this web page full of information you can use.

Further Information

I’ve been writing about Thurston County and Thurston County politics for 37 years. My column Ken’s Corner & The Real News has appeared in half a dozen local publications over that period of time.

Currently Ken’s Corner can be heard on KGY 1240 AM three days a week, three times each day. These radio commentaries air on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:30 a.m. , 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. In addition, I publish a subscriber only newsletter which goes out to paid subscribers. Currently the price for the newsletter is $35 per year.

It is my intent to bring those radio commentaries to an audience which may have missed them. That’s why you will see many articles which are written in all capital letters. That’s the way they are written for radio. In addition, these radio commentaries may have names misspelled or spelled phonetically. That’s the way they were taped and that’s the way they will appear on these pages.

In addition, I have written more than 1000 commentaries in my 37 years. Most of them have been insignificant, some have merit yet today and a few, a very few are gems and have long term staying power. It is my intent to bring you the best of those columns and commentaries

For those paid subscribers to my newsletter, I plan to have a few special articles that only you can access. We’re not there yet so have patience.

And for those of you who are not subscribers to my newsletter, you can get more information about it and learn how to subscribe by clicking on the correct button.

I have not allowed space for you to respond to the articles or to make your own comments. If you want to do that – – start your own web page.
