We need new Supreme Court Justices

October 28th, 2016 by Ken

News that Seattle billionaires Bill Gates, Paul Allen and their friends have spent nearly a million dollars to influence the races for the Washington State Supreme Court, would normally send me up the wall.   Big money shouldn’t be allowed to influence the will of the voters.

But, this time around, I have to make an exception.   It’s time for changes on the State Supreme Court.

For a decade, the incumbent judges have been making rulings from the bench that are beyond their legal abilities.   Their ruling in the school funding cases is just an example.   Fining the state legislature is something that stretches their duties.   Their rulings in the charter school cases, against state funding is beyond understanding.

Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that the Washington State Supreme Court has been bought and payed for by the Washington Education Association (WEA).  This government union has spent nearly as much as the billionaires to keep the current court on the bench.

I’ve been concerned for a long time about the slanted role the judges play in forcing billions of dollars of taxpayer money into education, while the WEA looks over their shoulders and threatens to withhold political financing if they don’t toe the union’s line.

Don’t be fooled by the issue.   It’s not about money for education.   It’s about more power and control for the WEA, who have bought the judges and now are working hard to keep their minions on the bench.

Don’t try and sort out the mess.   Just vote for all the challengers.   We need an independent supreme court – – not one bought and payed for by the teacher’s union.

Thanks goodness we have some billionaires who can compete in the money race against the all powerful teachers union.
