Threats by Randy Dorn to run for governor as an independent does a couple of things. It shows the arrogance and ignorance of someone who thinks that education is the only important responsibility of government. And, if he proceeds, he will take enough votes away from Jay Inslee to give the office to Republican Bill Bryant. On second thought, maybe that’s not a bad idea. It’s been four decades since a Republican held the top office in the state.
I’m not convinced that Washington State Auditor Troy Kelley is guilty of any crime. That’s why a trial – currently underway – will make the determination. In the meantime – those who called for his resignation before his guilt or innocence has been established – should be ashamed of themselves.
With several thousand septic systems in Thurston County, it’s obvious why some people want to tax all of them. It will bring in millions of dollars each year which could be used for environmental clean-up. But – under the guise of protecting the environment it’s just another attempt to grab money to expand the scope of government. Those running for county commissioner this year would do well to step lightly on the issue – – if they want to get elected.
With the way the presidential primary is going, it’s just possible that Washington state may play a role in its outcome. Our May primary could hold just enough votes to deny or give a candidate the edge for nomination. It’ll be the first time we’ve had any say in a presidential primary election.
