“The Olympian” looking for a new home
Now that the Olympia School District has passed it’s bond issue, money is now available for the district to purchase The Daily Olympian building between State and Fourth avenues. Purchase price for the building is around $1.5 million dollars. The district is anxious to finalize the deal and has been at the building – – looking and measuring where different district offices will go.
In the meantime, owners of the building – McClatchy – are trying to find a suitable office in downtown Olympia. Some 20 employees still work out of Olympia and the editorial staff need a conference room that can accommodate its editorial board meetings with community leaders. They also need parking for employees and visitors.
No date has been set for the transfer of property, but the school district would like to move in as soon as possible.
(My suggestion would be for them to lease or purchase the old Daily Olympian building on the corner of State and Capitol Way. It’s partly empty and may be available. The newspaper operated out of that building for decades before moving to its current location.)
