Lacey history this week 1969

February 23rd, 2016 by Ken

A move – – aimed at a possible annexation of Lacey to Olympia  – – set off a chain reaction that promised to have significant implications on the course of city elections this fall. (1969)

Word of a possible annexation attempt popped up when it was learned that a grassroots movement, originating in Lacey, was holding a series of meetings with Olympia officials.

Olympia City Supervisor Eldon Marshall termed the idea “premature”.   Many people in Lacey think that if any annexation is to take place it should be to annex Olympia into Lacey.

In other political news, voters in the North Thurston School District went to the polls and approved a maintenance and operations levy of $240,000 and a bond issue of $1.4 million to construct the new Olympic View Elementary School.
