Lacey History – This Week 1977
The Lacey City Council sent a letter to Olympia Postmaster Emerson Rogers expressing concern about postal service to Lacey residents complaining that his office has not recognized the City of Lacey as a separate city. The letter says that Lacey residents continue to receive mail addressed to “Olympia” and that threatens the city’s identity.
The letter also expressed frustration at the size of the Lacey post office, the lack of staff and the long wait times for service at the the post office’s location on Sleater Kinney.
Lacey Mayor Karen Fraser said that the city had budgeted $5000 in its 1978 budget for a class-action lawsuit if the Postal Service didn’t respond to the complaints.
