Boeing strike threat short-sighted
I don’t normally comment of activities that take place in Seattle and very seldom comment on any action taking place at Boeing. But the decision of the engineer’s union to reject a new contract and threaten a strike, impacts everyone in Washington state.
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (Speea) has rejected a contract offer that would give them pay raises of 2.5 to 3.5 percent over the next four years, claiming the offer wouldn’t keep pace with inflation. The contract was rejected by more than 90 percent of the workers.
Boeing is a major player in the state’s economy, and what happens at Boeing impacts everyone in this state.
I would like members of Speea to remember, that Boeing built a new plant in South Carolina because it was concerned about labor unrest and strikes by its engineers in Washington.
This current strike threat shows that the company had a right to be concerned.
