Barkis kicks off campaign

March 6th, 2012 by Ken

Andrew Barkis, Republican candidate for Thurston County Commissioner, kicked off his campaign Tuesday evening with an event at the Lacey Community Center.

Barkis is running for the Second Commissioner District seat currently held by Democrat Sandra Romero.

Barkis said he would take a fresh approach to the commission and add a new voice to the process; a voice representing citizens and the private sector.

He is the co-owner of Home Town Property Management and a past president of the Lacey Chamber of Commerce.

When elected, Barkis said, he would work to stop the listing of the Mazama Pocket Gopher as an endangered species, find the money necessary to open the new county corrections facility, and not increase taxes but increase business, which pays the taxes.

Some 150 people were present, including several local elected officials.
