Ralph Munro – Decision maker

June 29th, 2011 by Ken

Thurston County Commissioners shouldn’t be responsible for redistricting their own districts. That’s the assessment of former Secretary of State Ralph Munro.

Munro made those remarks during his appearance on “Decision Makers”, Tuesday at Two on AM 1240 KGY Radio.

The former Secretary of State said that commissioners should appoint an independent body to determine new commissioner district boundaries, similar to what is currently underway at the state level. Munro was a leader in taking the state legislature out of the redistricting process and creating a semi-independent redistricting committee.

In Thurston County, the county auditor’s office will draw new district boundaries lines, but they must be approved by the Thurston County Commissioners.
