Rossi can’t win – Eyman can
It’s bad news for Dino Rossi and good news for Tim Eyman. That’s the result of a political poll taken recently by the University of Washington.
The poll, conducted by the Washington Survey Research Center, for the University of Washington, shows that Dino Rossi can’t beat Patty Murray, if the election was held today.
Rossi gets only 40 percent of the vote against Murray’s 44 percent. Even the independents aren’t going for Rossi. Only 41 percent of them said they’d support the two time governor candidate.
But, it’s better news for Tim Eyman. His initiative to require a two-thirds vote before raising any taxes, has drawn the support of 60 percent of the survey participants, including 41 percent of the Democrats, 74 percent of the Republicans and 65 percent of the Independents.
But, if the anti-tax people are happy with that result, they won’t be with the next survey question.
Some 58 percent of the respondents said they would vote for a state income tax on those making more than $200,000 a year. That includes 72 percent of the Democrats, 57 percent of the Independents and even 41 percent of the Republicans.
Other survey results show that 52 percent of the survey participants want the state out of the liquor business while 52 percent also favor removing the criminal and civil penalities for marijuana possession.
Of course, the results of any of the questions could change as special interest groups spend millions to convince the voters that they’re wrong.
