New houses suffer from cold weather

December 11th, 2009 by Ken

The extreme cold of this past week has taken a toll on homes some of them on new homes.   Many owners have reported broken water pipes and water damage from that breakage.

Andrew Barkis of Home Town Property Management says of the 900 rental units they manage, some two dozen have suffered broken water pipes.  Barkis said several new houses have had broken pipes due to lack of proper insulation.

In one housing development, new owners found that in at least one instance, the insulation in the wall was placed on the inside wall leaving water pipes exposed next to the outside wall.
