Boys & Girls Club gets large donation
The Boys and Girls Club of Thurston County received a $20,000 donation from the Rotary Club of Lacey Thursday, the largest single donation the club has received.
Last year members of the Lacey Rotary Club pledged to raise $100,000 for the Boys and Girls Club over a five-year period. The donation Thursday was the first part of that pledge.
The Lacey branch of the Boys and Girls Club is in a bus barn, donated by the North Thurston Public Schools. The pledge was to raise enough money to convert the building into a usable facility.
Club members have pitched in and done some work on the building and it currently has about 200 to 250 kids using it each day.
In accepting the donation, Kim Dinsmore, a member of the Boys and Girls Club Board, told the Rotarians, “you should be very proud of what you’re doing.”
The remainder of the pledge will be spread out over the next four years.
