Brian Baird makes the big time
Brian Baird, our own congressman here from the Third District has made the big time. He’s made the front page of The Wall Street Journal.
The Journal says Baird led a trip to the South Pole on New Years 2008 along with nine other members of congress and six spouses.
The group went diving and snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef, rode a cable car through the Australian rain forest and visited a penguin rookery when they flew to the South Pole.
Baird says the trip was to learn about global warming first hand and to monitor how federal funds were spent.
The trip cost taxpayers $103,000 not counting air fare which was provided free of charge by the Air Force. According to Defense Department officials, the entire cost would have been more than $500,000 if flight cost had been included.
Baird has been making news lately for cancelling town hall meetings because he feared mob mentality, getting a faxed death threat, and now the front page of The Wall Street Journal.
Can our congressman get any more publicity?
